I am not in that loop :)

Looking at the suspension and disc brakes all around, I wonder if it was something built for track days.

i spelled it wrong. it's "Mext up" is a custom single cab i think built by one of the members of the German Folks VW club. it was shipped to Japan back in the 90's (i think 90's). do a gallery search on the samba, several pic's up there from back in the day.

here's more info on your weird long bed double cab.

Wow, great find. Sad to see it never became much of a build thread. Understandable that some people just don't have the time or inclination but I would have loved to see details.

Also, bummed the koachwerx board link is a 404.

I get into some of those archives of the historical VW groups on FB and find I have like 20 tabs open to share lol

This was a promotion for the new 'Herbie Rides Again' movie in 1974, showing at the Odeon cinema, Bridge Street, Stafford, England. Local VW owners brought their cars along for a display at the cinema. Here is another photo from the same time.

google hasn't updated its street view of a street in my neighborhood sense 2011! back then a guy on the street had this bug. i can't seem to get a shot from the back, but at some point in it's life it may have been rear ended cause the bumper didn't have the over riders on it and the paint (while matching) was a bit off. 30 years ago there was a light blue fastback in the driveway. both have sense disappeared.

wouldn't work in CA. just it being a manual trans would do more than hanging it up there.
