At a local show here a Bug had a similar motor but they had removed the distributor and only an alternator was left and it looked really clean. I think I have a picture and will post it if I can find it.

The ravages of time...
Last weekend I spotted the remains of a Bug I previously owned!
It was my daily driver until December 1998 when I sold it to a VW workshop.
He still sits there at their backyard... At least he's not alone...
