iv actually seen one of those penny farthing bikes on the back of a bug before! it was at a Drag Day at Irwindale. towards the end of the show the guy was ridding it around the almost empty parking lot. then strapped it to the back of his bug and left.

I tried really hard to find some info on the pic but couldn't. It looked to me like the rear tires might have been two big for the space and they were removing the damaged fenders so they could continue the race. It's an odd pic, if there's a VW-type exhaust, it seems to be almost completely hidden.

Yeah, most likely. These huge tires hardly clear the mostly stock fenders.

May be an allusion to the Saab rally cars...
