I wonder what that's intended to record. Just distance but why would you need the cable running into the passenger area?
A california plate with a 56 reg date and what looks like Woolport(Woolpery?) Imports, Garden Grove but I can't find anything about the photo and it's context.

Because of the louvers it's quite possible that this bug has an performance
or Porsche engine IMHO. Hard to tell from the pic but it seems to be lowered too.

Spotted on TheSamba. The caption reads:
Rome wrote:Understated, hot rod Beetle built in the mid 1980's by Miles Collier, Jr. of Naples, FL. Aluminum fenders, engine lid, hood, door skins, running boards fabricated by Troutman & Barnes of Culver City, CA. Porsche 356A Carrera "stacked dish" drum brakes, Porsche 901 5-speed transmission (dogleg 1st gear), 911 semi-trailing arm rear suspension, Speedster seats.
Engine originally was a 180hp 2.0 liter flat-fan Carrera 4-cam engine from a Porsche Elva racer. Now it's a flat-fan conversion Porsche 914 2.6 liter built by Jake Raby (RAT). Floorpan perimeter metal stiffeners. Small access panel behind LR window was for a dry sump oil reservoir fill.
I saw this very car in 1988 on display at the Miles Collier Museum in Naples. Now the museum is called the Revs Institute.
