Nice motor.
At a local show here a Bug had a similar motor but they had removed the distributor and only an alternator was left and it looked really clean. I think I have a picture and will post it if I can find it.

The ravages of time...

Last weekend I spotted the remains of a Bug I previously owned!
It was my daily driver until December 1998 when I sold it to a VW workshop.
He still sits there at their backyard... At least he's not alone...

I've driven by this one for about a year now. It's sad to see but what great yard art!

pretty sure that'll buff out.
be an ambitious project but it doesn't look to far gone. i say go for it. good luck.
