I've never heard of the track but reading about it's history on Wiki, it's been through so many alterations and improvements, it's not likely that the little Beetle did too many laps on it as the cars got faster :)

i knew of the track, hell iv raced there. in 8bits  it's in Ferrari Grand Prix Challenge on the NES.

it appears to be a late model idk what was going on there in the early/mid 70's but i was assuming by the pic that the track may have been under construction when the photo was taken.

What about this one?

A ridealong in one of those would be a bucketlist type of thing.

That double cab looks amazing but I wonder what it's intended use was? Looks like automotive emergency repair but it's got a shovel and a long T-handled wrench. "Schnell zu- " . Maybe quickly to the 'something'?

I love the orange so much but I really feel like they missed their chance at mixing Herbie with it by using 53 instead of the General Lee's 01.

A dealer's service vehicle... "Schnell zur Stelle": Quickly at the spot (to give you a hand).

Man, that is such a blast-from-the-past look. I don't think it ever really stuck with me.

Not my cup of tea really but the engine is at the rear at least... :)

Also not so much into the rat/volksrod thing but this one is cool...
