Those are fantastic man. I love that first '51. I'd drive the wheels off of it.

bet you wouldn't. it's a standard, has cable brakes and a non synchromesh trans. also, don't get a flat cause that's the original spare! he has the original date coded tires put away as well.

you can see more of that car in the July issue of Hot VW"s magazine. or fallow VW_KIDD on Instagram (a good fallow regardless. Roberts been involved in the Los Angeles VW scene sense the 80's and has a lot of cool pic's https://www.instagram.com/vw_kidd/?hl=en )

Non-synchro trans don't slow me down(well, they slow everyone down but you know what I mean) but I don't think you could safely drive in this area with mech brakes. I've never driven one with that style of brakes but I would imagine there's not a lot of emergency stopping going on.

idk, id reconsider the brakes. you loose a cable and you have no brakes. it's not often a clutch or throttle cable breaks. but when they do there is no warning. if it were a deluxe model with juice brakes id attempt to drive the hell out of it.

Nice pics Randy, thanks for sharing! 8-)
If they illustrate a representative cross section of the attendant crowd
the most loathed combo must be a Super with Cookie Cutters...
May be that's why I love it!

As for the cable brakes...
In for a penny, in for a pound. ;)
